Stefan George

Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter Stefan
George was born in Detroit and
studied John Hurt, Reverand Gary
Davis and Brownie McGhee while they
worked that part of the country.
Stefan called Tucson home for the
past few decades, having started the
Brain Damage Orchestra in the 60's.
He has been named Best of Tucson
since 1994 in songwriter, solo
acoustic performer, and acoustic
ensemble categories, and has been a
finalist at Telluride and Kerrville,
where he once hosted the annual
Blues Summit.
Stefan was a popular acoustic slide
guitarist at festivals in the U.S.
and Germany, and has shared the
stages with Queen Ida, Guy Davis,
Rory Block, Steve James, Honey Boy
Edwards, Big Twist and James Cotton.
In addition to his solo acoustic
work, he had an electric trio, The
Conrads, a duo of guitar and
hammered dulcimer, Arm & Hammer,
and a folk band, Songtower.
Stef, a generous educator in Blues
music and culture throughout
Arizona, completed 7 CDs for the
Blue Bhikku label.
Stefan George was a past president of
the ABHOF.
Stefan George passed away in 2015 at
the age of 62.
